Summer Before Senior Year

The summer before senior year is one of the most important times in your high school careeer, and can make a huge difference for your chances of getting into college. Here is a quick "to do" list of things you can do in the summer before senior year that will help you lessen the workload during the busy school year

  1. Look up Common App and begin writing drafts of college essay (*** You will also most likely need to write other essays specific to the college of your choice, so visit their websites too!!)

  2. Start looking at general scholarships (look under our College tab) 

  3. Narrow down college choices 

  4. Make sure you sign up for challenging courses your senior year

  5. Spend a few hours each week reviewing for the ACT and SAT (grab a tutor if needed!)

  6. Visit college campuses if you can; attend any college fairs

  7. Get teacher recommendations BEFORE you leave for summer break!  You should get these (or at least ask!) in the spring of Junior year!

  8. Create a resume or brag sheet

  9. Get some leadership experience!!

  12. Yes, start working on your Senior Exit!!  The last thing you want is to be bombarded with Senior Exit and College Applications at the same time.  If you manage your time wisely, it will be less stressful :-)
